Accommodation

At ISM, we carefully select accommodation to support the overall experience of your course — balancing comfort in the valley with the practical realities and character of staying in the mountains.

Accommodation arrangements vary between programmes, so the individual course page and joining information are always the definitive guide to the accommodation included with your particular course.

Valley & Hotel Accommodation

Depending on the programme, hotel accommodation may be provided at the beginning and/or end of your course, as well as during valley-based nights.

Where shared hotel accommodation is included:

• Rooms are normally based on two people sharing a twin room
• If you are travelling alone, you will normally be allocated a shared room with another ISM client on the same course

Single Rooms

If you would prefer your own room, a single occupancy upgrade may be requested.

Single rooms are:

• Subject to availability
• Available for valley/hotel accommodation only
• Charged at the applicable supplementary rate

If you would like a single room, please let us know as early as possible. We will check availability and confirm the additional cost before making the arrangement.

Mountain Hut Accommodation

Staying in mountain huts is an integral part of many alpine courses and gives us access to the high mountains for early starts and longer objectives.

Accommodation is generally in shared dormitory-style rooms or bunk rooms.

You will normally share with other ISM clients and, depending on the hut, other mountaineers staying there.

Room sizes and facilities vary considerably. Some huts have smaller shared rooms, while others use larger communal dormitories.

Mountain huts are functional high-mountain accommodation rather than hotels, and facilities reflect their remote locations.

Please be aware that:

• Single rooms and private-room upgrades are generally not available in mountain huts
• Sleeping and bathroom facilities may be communal
• Facilities and levels of comfort vary between huts
• Water and shower facilities may be limited or unavailable at some huts
• Your guide will explain any particular requirements for the huts used during your programme

For many people, staying in a mountain hut becomes a memorable part of the alpine experience.

Expedition Accommodation

On some ISM expeditions, accommodation may include hotels, guesthouses and camping as the team progresses towards the mountain.

At base camp, single occupancy tents may sometimes be available, depending on the expedition and local arrangements.

At advanced base camps and higher camps, clients should normally expect to share a two-person tent.

This reflects the practical realities of expedition mountaineering, particularly as the team moves higher and equipment, weight and camp logistics become increasingly important.

The individual expedition information will explain the accommodation arrangements for your particular programme.

Specific Requirements

If you have any specific accommodation requirements, please tell us as early as possible.

We will always try to help where reasonably possible, but accommodation in mountain environments — particularly mountain huts and expedition camps — can be limited and we cannot guarantee that every request can be accommodated.
