Silvretta-Ski-Touring

The comfortable huts and accessibility of the peaks (3 to 4 hour ascents) makes this region a ski touring delight. If conditions allow we can extend certain days to give extra skiing for the more energetic!

This course convenes in Landeck, a small village just below Isghl. The resort of Landeck is easily reached by train from Zurich airport, (3 hours) or Innsbruck (1 hour). We meet at 6.30pm in the hotel to discuss the week's activities.

Ski ability required: Strong piste skier with good parallel turns on piste with effective and comfortable turns off-piste. Prior ski touring experience is necessary. You need to have a good level of fitness and be able to comfortably sustain a climb at a rate of 300 vertical metres an hour. Sample Programme

Day 1
Transfer to Isghl ski area. We make the most of the uplift to have a warm up ski, then take lifts to Paulinerkopf so that we can ski tour over the Zeblasjoch along the Austria-Switzerland border, before descending to the Heidelbergerhutte at 2264m. The hut has hot showers and a warm hospitality. Piz Val Gronda (2611m) may be climbed.

300m ascent, 760m descent, 3 to 5hrs.

Day 2
We ascend the glacier to reach the Kronenjoch. and then a further small pull takes us to the summit of the Breite Krone. From here we ski down to the Jamtalhutte.
800m ascent, 900m descent. 5 to 6hrs

Day 3
Ascend the Jamtal Glacier to the Ochsenscharte Col (2913m) and if time permits an ascent of Dreilanderspitze 3197m. We then descend the north west facing slopes down the Vermunt Glacier to the Weisbadner Hut.
800m ascent, 750m descent. 5 to 6hrs

Day 4
The classic Piz Buin (3312m) awaits us today which we climb whilst en route to traverse the Silvretta Pass (3003m). The final ascent of the Piz Buin is quite technical and is done on foot and with a rope, although the summit is optional. It's then a fantastic descent, returning to the Weisbadener Hut for a second night..
1000m ascent, 800m descent. 5 to 6hrs

Day 5
The final day, we ascend Rauhkopfscharte via Radsattal (3000m) and then ski down to Gaultur via Bielerohe. A great ski descent all the way down to its end, where we then enjoy the bus back to Landeck.
600m ascent, 1200m descent. 5hrs.
