When winter arrives the area becomes almost magical. The area is served by a wide network of ski lifts, giving access to many tours. This trip is ideal for keen skiers that want to maximize their skiing experience, spending no more than two hours of ascent and the rest of the day just enjoying the glourious off-piste skiing downhill.

Using skins we can explore some of the best off-piste skiing that the Dolomites has to offer. At the end of each day we stay in charming small hotels, or cozy mountain huts, with rooms, showers and plenty of good italian food and wine. Combining lifts accessed runs and basic ski mountaineering skills we can traverse some iconic mountains such as Marmolada, Sassolungo, Sella, Tre cime di Lavaredo in just one week.

Is This Course For Me?

Ski ability required: Effective turns off-piste and experience in skiing a variety of different snow types off-piste. A good general level of fitness and a basic knowledge of ski touring using skins to ascend.

Sample Programme

Meet Saturday evening meeting at the hotel in Falcade, gear check, itinerary explanation.

Day 1
Sunday, we warm up with some off-piste runs around Falcade which will put us in the right mood for a short ascent with skins allowing us to refresh our basic ski touring skills.

Day 2
On Monday we head to the beautiful Marmolada, the highest mountain in the Dolomites. We start with the Forca Rossa traverse (550 M vertical gain on skins) to ski the Val Frazendas to Malga Ciapela. Using the lift we access the Marmolada summit, and then ski down to Passo Fedaia. Using the lifts we ski all the way to our hotel at Passo Pordoi.

Day 3
Tuesday, we ski the Sassolungo traverse. Through the Forcella Sassolungo (450m) we descend to the Monte Pana in the Gardena valley, then back using lifts at the Pordoi Pass.

Day 4
On Wednesday we head up and traverse the Sella group. There are several options, a strong group can opt for two different itineraries in a day. A short skin up gives us access to runs such as the Val Lasties or the Val Mesdi or Piz Boe. To finish the day it's a fantastic ski all the way to Passo Falzarego where we stay at the Rifugio Lagazuoi a nice hut with a sauna!

Day 5 
Thursday is a traverse the Fanis group. After an easy ascent we can ski down the Val Travenazes, arguably one of the most spectacular of the area,. A short taxi transfer to Misurina where we stay at the Lago Antorno hotel.

Day 6
Friday, we head to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, also called the Drei Spitzer, which has some of the most recognizable and spectacular mountains in the world. We traverse the range (800m vertical ascent, snowmobile lift optional) with the choice of skiing the Rienza valley to Landro Lake or the Campo di Dentro valley to Sesto Pusteria. A taxi ride will get us back to Falcade for a drink on the final evening.
